
Andy Schmidt is currently the Vice President, Editor-In-Chief of Boom! Studios, the fourth largest comics and graphic novel publisher in America where he oversees four imprints that create art house, mainstream and popular comics, licensed books of major franchises, Young Adult and Middle Grade graphic novels.
He is an accomplished writer having written for comics, children’s books, video games and more. He is a well respected comics editor with a track record of helping craft engaging stories that excite fans and sell. He’s overseen multi-million dollar brands and worked in intellectual property development and as a consultant in TV, Film, and animation as well as with toy companies and video game companies. Andy’s been working in the comics industry since 2002 and has been on staff at Marvel Comics, IDW Publishing, Hasbro and most recently Boom! Studios.
Andy is best known in comics for his creation of the Marvel Comics storyline called Annihilation which re-framed the Guardians of the Galaxy into a multi-billion dollar franchise. Andy conceived of the project and managed the sprawling, 26-issue saga from beginning to end, giving Marvel a new Guardians for a new era.
Andy has worked on nearly every boy-brand there is, including Star Wars, Dungeons & Dragons, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Star Trek, Marvel Comics and DC Comics.
In 2007, Andy founded Comics Experience to pass his knowledge on to students. In 2008, Andy wrote an authoritative, Eagle Award-winning book about making comics: The Insider’s Guide to Creating Comics and Graphic Novels, published by Impact Books. His follow up book, The Comics Experience Guide to Writing Comics: Scripting Your Story Ideas from Start to Finish was published in 2018 to rave reviews.
Andy currently lives in Kentucky with his family and frequently travels to LA for various meetings and work. In his spare time, he is a Solar System Ambassador for NASA’s JPL, and a coach and referee for adult and kids soccer. He works from his home office with his dog Wyatt.
