ModeratorWEEK ONE
REMINDER: Your story for this class should be a new, original and complete five-page story. It should not be part of a larger story and you should not use characters that you plan on writing a longer story about.
TO POST YOUR HOMEWORK: Create a new thread in this forum, with the following format:
Homework 1A – Your Name – Title
Homework 1B – Your Name – TitleFor example:
Homework 1A – Paul Allor – President Ninja
For the first week, you can just copy your homework into the body of the thread. In future weeks, you’ll want to attach your homework, as a word-compatible document.
HOMEWORK WEEK 1
PART ONE
Please create your STORY SENTENCE as discussed in class:
CHARACTER is taking ACTION to achieve GOAL. Remember to be as specific as you can, while also realizing it’s a single sentence.
When you’ve got it, post it in your thread for review and review other people’s homework and comment.
You may decide to revise your sentence to make it stronger based on feedback.
Once your story sentence is in good shape, you’ll move on to part 1 and post it A NEW THREAD.
PART TWO
Write a character description for your protagonist (and if you have an antagonist, him or her also).
- You will not have room in your story for any more important characters. Five pages is pretty limiting. So really just those two.
- Your character bio should explain your characters motivation (why they want to achieve the goal) and give me any unique characteristics that I would need to understand in order to understand your character.
You should also write a one page, double-spaced (if using Microsoft Word) synopsis of the events in your story. And ONLY the events IN the story.
- Your synopsis shouldn’t get into motivations, we’ll have that from the bios. It should simply be the flow of EVENTS.
- This is still big picture, so don’t get into details.
- Avoid giving us backstory. Your backstory, by definition, is NOT in the story, so leave it out.
- Your first sentence should be the first thing the that happens in the story and your last sentence should be the last thing that happens in the story.
When done with your bios and synopsis, post them, following the posting guidelines in your thread and comment on other people’s homework.
After you receive feedback, you may decide to revise your bios and/or synopsis, but you may not.
BONUS PART THREE
Post in the “introduce yourself” thread if you haven’t already.Attachments:
