    Hello everybody,

    My name is Jonathan Brown.

    1. My background in comics began after the premiere of the X-Men animated series one Saturday morning in the 90’s. I knew that there was a comic shop near my house, and after the show’s debut, I begged my mother to take me and my $5 allowance there. When I arrived, I was greeted with a Secret Defenders #1 copy on the shelf. The foil-red cover and the fact that Wolverine could be in multiple teams amazed me. From there, I was a weekly fixture at the comic shop called Wonder Years. At that time, I fell in love with the Green Lantern and even deeper in love with the X-Men. Eventually, we moved. I fell away from comics in my teen years. Then, in college, I returned to the art form due to a late-night History Channel documentary about the history of Superhero comics. It introduced me to Dennis O’Neil’s run on Green Lantern. The next day, I walked into a comic shop and learned about Green Lantern Rebirth, and since then, I have been regularly tuned into the medium. I was able to take two comic book theory courses in grad school. I have published several articles on comics, most often in Back Issue magazine.

    2. I was introduced to Andy Schmidt when I interviewed him for a Keith Giffen tribute article. I learned about Comic Experience and decided I wanted to give it a try. For years, I have wanted to try and write comics but felt kinda overwhelmed by the idea. So I am hoping this class can give me a few tools to start the trek.

    3. I hope to develop the tools to submit a comic to a publisher and have them produce it. I would love to develop and gain insights into getting to pitch at the Big 2 and Image alongside story crafting techniques.

    4. Since my foster kids came into my life, Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason’s Batman and Robin has been hitting all the right emotional notes for me. My all-time favorite is probably the first 70 issues of X-Factor, and my snooty pick is V for Vendetta.
